Wombat's "Better" NFL Picks Now you have two idiots helping you pick games. Let’s see which one of us is better. Introducing the new, extra spicy, picks from JtT. Good luck figuring out what that stands for.... email me your guesses at craziwombat@gmail.com.
Well my first week and I started off with 8-7 on my picks. The other guy who allegedly contributes to this website didn’t even make his picks. What a slacker. This week I’ll try and do better. I did get all my upset picks correct.
Week 11 Maddenism of the Week: “When your arm gets hit, the ball is not going to go where you want it to.”
Lifetime Stats Win/Loss : 8-7 Upset Picks: 2-0 What Am I Thinking? Pick: 1-0 Shutout Pick: 0-1
Miami Dolphins (+3) vs. CAROLINA PANTHERS
This is tough… Ronnie Brown is out. Williams and Stewart are questionable. Jake Delhomme is throwing to the correct guys. What I’m saying is this could go anywhere. Panthers are 10-2 in their last 12 regular season home games. The Dolphins have only played twice in Carolina. I’m going to give the game ball to home field advantage and take the Panthers.
Week 10 Maddenism of the week : "He would have scored a touchdown if he hadn't been tackled right there" – John Madden
*Winner is BOLDED and in CAPS*
CHICAGO BEARS (+3) vs. San Francisco Cutler should get back on track in this game… problem is he needs his defense to slow things down. Look for a pick six to take the Bears to a victory. Sorry Alex but three good games in a row… prolly not. UFL time.
"Upset Pick Of The Week" - TAMPA BAY BUCCANEERS (+10) vs. Miami Dolphins
Jacksonville Jaguars (+7) vs. NEW YORK JETS Jets are rested. Jaguars barely beat the chefs… Jags aren’t good on the road. As long as Sanchez isn’t hung-over from his birthday I look for him to control the game the defense to rattle Garrard earlier which keeps the ball out of Mighty Mouse’s hands.
"What am I thinking? Upset Pick of the Week" - Denver Broncos (-3.5) vs. WASHINGTON REDSKINS Denver is slowly starting to get the sheets pulled back. Orton versus Skins pass defense. I like the Skins defense to win this game for them. If Campbell can avoid getting eaten by Dumervil and make a few plays downfield then Ladell Betts should outrun Knowshon Moreno who will be trying to make up for at least two picks by Orton. In all reality none of what I just said is probably going to happen, but if the spread is only a crazy 3.5 I have to make crazy predictions. (Broncos win huge in reality)
CINCINNATI BENGALS (+7) vs. Pittsburgh Steelers I think this is one of the only games this week where the spread comes into play. I think Cincy wins with a late FG. Look for Polamalu to do what the entire Ravens defense couldn’t do. Unfortunately Carson is just as revived as Benson is and he can shoulder the team.
Buffalo Bills (+7) vs. TENNESSEE TITANS Despite being 14-6 all time coming off a bye, TO has hip problems, Buffalo has QB problems and Vince Young may not have to throw the ball more than 5 times with Chris Johnson running all over everyone. Tennessee wins this game as long as Vince Young doesn’t lose it (his mind, again, that is).
Detroit Lions (+17) vs. MINNESOTA VIKINGS There are too many things that just happened for Detroit to win this game. Calvin Johnson just got back; Larry Foote and Julian Peterson haven’t quite got in synch with the young guys. Stafford is only a few weeks from an injury. Minnesota is too good to fast for Detroit to keep up. As long as they don’t get conservative Minnesota should cover the spread. Stafford will be pressured often and will take hits welcome to the big game kid.
NEW ORLEANS SAINTS (-14) vs. St. Louis Rams I don’t know how the Saints almost lost to Carolina… but unfortunately that means they won’t be looking past the Rams who otherwise might have snuck up on them. New Orleans has three great RB’s, 8 million receivers, and a machine for a QB. Oh yeah and they got a better defense than last year. Miami better not even be thinking about getting the champagne out yet. Saints might not lose, ever, again.
ATLANTA FALCONS (-2) vs.. Carolina Panthers Jake Delhomme has thrown the same amount of INT’s as Matt Ryan has thrown TD’s. This game is going to be a heavy dose of running from both teams, so it’s going to be the one big play by a QB that’s going to change this game… Or what I meant to say is… it’s only a matter of time before Jake gift wraps a pick six.
"Shut Out Pick of the Week" Kansas City Chiefs (+2) vs. OAKLAND RAIDERS Controversy creates cash… it however rarely leads to wins. In this case Kansas City’s baggage is still recent. Unless Cable gets arrested mid game, Oakland should run its way to victory. A sneaky good Oakland defense will keep whatever weapon KC has out of the end zone; the ONE weapon being a Bowe and … n/m.
SEATTLE SEAHAWKS (+9) vs. Arizona Cardinals Arizona wins at home every week…. for having the coolest stadium in the NFL (sorry Jerry, but you can't slide your field outside to get some sun). You can, however, forget to cover the giant window to blind your opponents. I’m off topic. Cardinals finally put one away at home unfortunately it’s close and Seattle covers.
Philadelphia Eagles (+3) vs. SAN DIEGO CHARGERS The Bolts are my team. I’ll pick them every week… Take note. In any case, this game is going to be a shoot out I haven’t looked at what the over is yet, but add 15… Westbrook playing could be a deciding factor. Look for Rivers to throw lots of screens to Sproles and catch the Eagles over pursuing.
Dallas Cowboys (-3) vs. GREEN BAY PACKERS The Cowboys just got the signature win they needed, right? Well, now they get the signature loss that we all know is coming. Someone needs to remind the Packers they need to win more games if this whole “we’ve got Brett right where we want him” plan to beat the Vikings in the playoffs is going to work. Although, maybe they are just going to hope he wins his ring and finally really retires, again, for the last time…. ever.
NEW ENGLAND PATRIOTS (+3) vs. Indianapolis Colts The Patriots came up short of their perfect season. Brady and Moss are finally back. Look for the Patriots to shut down the Colts’ dreams of an undefeated year. The Colts’ defense is just too banged up. By the way, how did Sorgi hurt his shoulder? Picking up his macchiato? I’m not sure why he even practices. He’ll probably retire before Peyton does…. out of boredom.
BALTIMORE RAVENS (-11) vs. Cleveland Browns Are you kidding me? This is going to make me…. find out what else is on television…. during MNF. Cleveland… seriously, where is the flex scheduling?
